‘Pop culture is probably at the core of everything’
I've been heavily influenced through my work in the fashion industry and freelance work as an illustrator over the last 20+ years, my work takes inspiration from Pop Culture, Skate, Graphic Design and Graffiti/Street Art.
As I signwriter I'm often curbed by the clients needs. A reaction to this is to paint with my signwriting kit the letters and tags that l'm drawn too, often repeating them (anoth-er influence from the fashion world.
Having also painted watercolour landscapes for many years my work is a combination of the street inspired work that forms my freelance projects, and my interest in local landscapes. I have tried to re-interpret the traditional landscape you may hang on the wall at home as a modern and urban piece of art. All the works are either hand drawn with marker pens and then scanned into my Mac. I then use Photoshop and a Cintiq tablet as my tools of choice to paint/attack' and work into the image. Or created entirely on the Ipad with Procreate. I like to bring type and colour into an otherwise monochrome view, the colour to give the image punch and depth and the type to bring the graphic and bold feel that I love.
I also love to re-interpret classic cartoons, re-imaginge trainers (another interest of mine). Pop culture is probably at the core of everything | create in one form or another.
